The Exercise Book Archive

These amazing images are courtesy of the Excercise Book Archive, an extensive archive of children’s workbooks from 30 different countries and dated from the late 1700s to the early 2000’s.

It’s a great body of work to browse, each country has such a distinctive style that can only be of it’s origin. It’s so nice to see the different approaches people took to such a simple item – the school exercise book. From the overtly political to teenage heartthrobs, and actually some rather interesting lettering, it’s all been done!
