Embroidered illustration by Sheena Liam

These beautiful embroidered portraits were created by Malaysian-born artist Sheena Liam. She keeps her work to a limited pallette of dark threads and neutral backgrounds which helps the work sit togther well as a collection. I love the re-occuring idea of ‘escaping’ threads to represent flowing hair, it gives the work another dimension.

“I never studied embroidery formally,”
