Brecht Vandenbroucke speaks truths through illustration

Brecht Vandenbroucke is based in Antwerp, Belgium and creates illustrative work that is heavily influenced by pop culture.

The TV shows, video games and music of his youth comes through in everything he does, although with a sinister twist, you have to do a double-take on much of the images he creates.

There are familiar themes running here, from race and privilege through to stereotypes and ideals.

I do love the biblical scene of Jesus giving his sermon on the mount, where Vandenbroucke has replaced JC with a YouTube ‘Skip Ad’ button. Feels very relevant idol in modern times.
